The mission of UAMS AHEC Southwest is teaching, healing, searching and servicing.  Our main emphasis for this project is providing preventative breast health education to the underserved/uninsured populations of our region.  By collaborating with the Texarkana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the UAMS AHEC SW Breast Health Education & Screening Program will provide vital breast health education to this area.  In addition, UAMS AHEC-SW provides clinical breast exams and screening mammography for women in need of these services.  Also, UAMS AHEC-SW will host a continuing education program to provide area health care providers with up-to-date information on breast cancer care and treatment.  The goal of this project is to provide quality breast health services to the underserved populations in the Texarkana region.  Evaluation methods will be based on changed perception about breast cancer and screening, as well as the number of mammograms performed through this program.
