TEXARKANA – NOVEMBER 04, 2011 – The Texarkana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, one of over 100 Affiliates nationwide dedicated to putting an end to breast cancer, announces the availability of grant funds for fiscal year 2012. Breast cancer and breast health programs of non-profit organizations, governmental agencies and educational institutions in Bowie and Cass counties in Texas and Miller, Little River, Hempstead and Lafayette counties in Arkansas are eligible for funding.
The Affiliate funds non-duplicative, community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved in these six counties. Recipients of grants totaling $373,811 in 2011 included Angel Fund Foundation, Inc., Atlanta Memorial Hospital, CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, Hospice of Texarkana, Little River Memorial Hospital, and UAMS-AHEC Southwest Foundation. A total of $3,302,738 has been distributed in the Texarkana service area to local community programs since the first Texarkana Race for the Cure® in 1999.
The grant cycle runs from April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013. To be eligible to apply for grant funds, applicant must attend the grant workshop to be held November 16, 2011.
